SIRIN Charity Animal Assistance Foundation, (SIRIN),, is a Russian not for profit |
| |
organization, working in Moscow to resolve problems between people and animals |
| |
in the most humane way. Its main objective is to prevent cruelty to animals .SIRIN was |
| |
established in 1992 in Moscow Russia, by a group of professionals, who hold degrees |
| |
in ecology, psychology and veterinary science ,and who are standing by the roots of |
| |
animals protection movement in Russia, to work for animal protection and enviroment . |
| |
The group's main efforts are directed to change the current situation with animals in |
| |
Russia, by developing structural, economic and legislative prerequisites by solving exis- |
| |
ting problems between animals and people. SIRIN is currentlyworking to develope the |
| |
enviroment laws and regulation of NGO's activities for the Russian Federation in col- |
| |
laboration with the Moscow and Federal Goverment. |
| |
In 1996, the Moscow city Goverment sponsored SIRIN to condact research and ana- |
| |
lysis of the current ecological situation in Moscow and to develope methods to resolve |
| |
problems under a program called "Animals in the City". |
| |
For the program, "Animals in the City", SIRIN's scientists also monitored animal mig- |
| |
ration in the city and completed a sociological study of public opinion toward homeless |
| |
and other. Mr.Kirill Goryachev, the president of SIRIN, has been involved in animal |
| |
protection movement for over eight years and the chief scientist Dr.Andrey Poyarkov, |
| |
a biologist , has studied the life homeless dogs and cats for the last twenty yeears . |
| |
With the support of a scientific team of 30 people, SIRIN made a unique and scientific |
| |
discovery which proves that killing animals (such as homeless cats and dogs) is not |
| |
resolving overpopulationissue but, in fact, making the fauna of the city even worse. |
| |
The foundation's study were presented to the Mayor's office for the alternative solution |
| |
to resolve animal overpopulation through providing registration, vaccination and steri- |
| |
lization of animal. RASPA's program "Development of Animal Welfare in Russia" will |
| |
assist SIRIN in the accomplishment of the program "Animals in the City". |
